Three herds of wild elephants in the Wasgomuwa National Park have stormed farmer colonies III and IV in the Minipe colonisation scheme and destroyed 50 houses.
Paddy cultivation in about 100 acres has been destroyed completely while the jumbos have eaten up paddy, salt and kurakkan stored in houses.
Farmers are making valiant efforts to safeguard their lives and property since these wild elephants storm their colonies in the night.
Wilgamuwa Pradeshiya Sabha Chairman has requested Natural Resources and Environment Minister A.H.M. Fowzie to take immediate steps safeguard the lives and property of farmers from these wild jumbos.
