Rains in drought affected areas
The Meteorology Department sources on Monday said that rains could be expected in the drought-affected areas during the next few days.
"This is the Southwest monsoon ending period, which ends in September. The effect of thundershowers will occur in several places off the Northcentral and Uva Province and few areas off the Central Province in the afternoons", Ms. Anusha Warnasuriya, Meteorologist, Meteorology Department told ‘The Island’ yesterday.
She said that inter monsoon season will start from October and will continue till December. "Rains could be expected in the dry zone areas during that period too", Warnasuriya added.
