A jumbo rescue
A giant wild elephant that had fallen into an agri-well at Ethawetunawewa in Kahatagasdigiliya was rescued by the villagers and Wild Life department officers on Saturday. They worked hard for two days to get the jumbo out of the well.
The well built jumbo had not been injured as it had fallen into five feet of water in the well, which was about 20 feed deep and hence the jumbo was safe.
On Friday, a villager who was herding cattle had seen the elephant in distress and informed the police who in turn informed the Anuradhapura Wild Life Office.
The Elephants came out of the well after a side was widened and fled to the forest.
