More than 80 national schools have no principals by By Kelum Bandara
Several national schools including two leading girls' schools in Kandy and Colombo are functioning without permanent principals, an Education official said yesterday.
The official said about 84 national schools were being run by acting principals since no permanent head were appointed.
"We called for applications and sent them to the Public Services Commission (PSC) for its approval but only 58 applications have been confirmed by the PSC while the others were rejected," the official said.
He attributed the shortage to the lack of adequate Grade 1 principals in the Education Administrative Service.
"Now we have to re-advertised but principals hardly show interest in serving national schools in the country," he said.
